Goldman Sachs Chairman and CEO Lloyd Blankfein admitted to CNN that he’s “scared to death” his firm will become mired in a scandal caused by a rogue staff member.  Given that the rules governing banks were now very tight, his main concern is that Goldman would be hurt by the misbehavior of an employee.

“The world wants me to be scared to death of that and they want me to be vigilant at the end of the day, and they’ve accomplished their purpose.”

Banks around the world have been hit by a succession of scandals since the financial crisis, most recently highlighted by Wells Fargo’s account scandals and Deutsche Bank’s sale of toxic mortgage-backed securities.

Mr Blankfein appeared upbeat about the US economy in the CNN interview, saying it had a “lot of advantages” even though its growth has been “tepid”. He added: “The sentiment is a lot worse than the economy.”
