Virtu Financial Settles NYSE Arca Trading Violation Charges

January 7, 2017

Virtu Financial, the giant Wall Street HFT firm run by Donald Trump’s nominee for secretary of the Army, Vincent Viola, agreed to pay a $70K fine to settle NYSE Arca charges that the firm, as a market maker, failed to maintain continuous, 2-sided trading interest in approximately 57,045 instances from April 2013 through December 2015.

The firm had been reprimanded just months earlier for having committed the same violations, but apparently did not heed the warning.  In December 2012, NYSE Arca issued a Letter of Caution for similar violations that occurred from December 2010 through July 2012.
