Trump Travel Ban: Hurry Up, Then Wait

[CNBC]    On Friday, 1/27, Donald Trump issued a temporary ban on immigration from 7 Muslim-majority countries. Just one week after taking office in front of a ‘record number of attendees’ for an inauguration. Yet, soon after signing his now infamous executive order – the centerpiece of a flurry of executive edicts - world-wide protests broke out and, before long, federal courts struck down his ban.

The White House has repeatedly said a new version would be coming. One month later and at least 3 postponements, no new executive order has been unveiled. Nor has Trump appealed the courts’ decisions. Which makes sense, since public opinion in the United States has veered largely against the travel ban. While early January sentiment among Americans favored “suspending immigration from ‘terror prone’ regions” - 48% to 42% - the numbers have since reversed.

So, yes, the urgency has subsided.  And, in place of any talk about the immigration ban, Trump and his administration have shifted priorities, with new and renewed attention on the economy, healthcare, and other matters. Trump is also spending more time giving public speeches and attending promotional events.

While the Trump administration’s agenda is largely unpredictable, one thing is certain - according to Trump:

The next rollout travel ban would be "flawless."
