It’s time, once again, for the U.S. News survey of best countries. This year, 80 countries were surveyed, with participants being asked to rank the best countries in 9 categories: (i) Adventure; (ii) Citizenship; (iii) Cultural Influence; (iv) Entrepreneurship; (v) Heritage; (vi) Movers; (vii) Open for Business; (viii) Power; and, (ix) Quality of Life.
For 2017, the Top 10 Ranked Countries were:
- Switzerland
- Canada
- United Kingdom
- Germany
- Japan
- Sweden
- United States
- Australia
- France
- Norway
The United States fell 3 spots from its #4 ranking in 2016. The timing of the global survey - beginning one week after November's U.S. presidential election - probably had an effect on the world's view of America. For example, nearly 75% of respondents said they had lost respect for the U.S. in some degree because of the toxic tone of the 2016 presidential campaign.
