SEC’s Piwowar Likely to Be Acting Chair, Could Be New Chair: Ex-SEC Official Aguilar

SEC Commissioner Michael Piwowar will almost certainly be the acting chair of the Commission, and could potentially be the new Chair of the SEC - that according to former SEC Commissioner Luis Aguilar, speaking at the MarketCounsel conference on Wednesday.

However, Aguilar, who during his time at the agency was a staunch advocate of adopting a uniform fiduciary standard for brokers and advisors, doesn't have much hope for an SEC fiduciary rule, and isn’t ‘optimistic’ about a DOL rule either. He noted that Piwowar would not embrace the Agency moving ahead on a fiduciary rule, as current SEC Chairwoman Mary Jo White has.
