SEC Resets the Clock on Trade Settlements
The SEC is shortening by one business day the standard settlement cycle for most broker-dealer securities transactions. What currently takes 3 business to settle will soon take 2 business days. The amended rules takes effect on 9/5/17.
The amended rule is intended to enhance efficiency, reduce risk, and ensure a coordinated and expeditious transition by market participants to a shortened standard settlement cycle.
