Playing Defense: Representing a Company Before the CFPB

October 29, 2016

Joseph Barloon and Anand Raman, partners at Skadden Arps who together lead the law firm’s consumer financial services practice, represented Wells Fargo before the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau amid an investigation into its sales practices.

While declining to comment about the case, they agreed to provide tips to WSJ Risk & Compliance Journal for companies with cases before the agency and their thoughts on the broader priorities of the bureau. This conversation was condensed and lightly edited for clarity, and it is the first in an occasional series on lawyers discussing how to represent companies before regulatory agencies.
