NYC's Post-Election ‘Subway Therapy’ Sticky Notes to Be Preserved

Many of the sticky notes that New Yorkers posted in the subway in the days following the presidential election will be preserved. The New-York Historical Society, working in partnership with NYS’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority, will preserve many of the notes posted at the 14th Street-Union Square station. The society, located at 170 Central Park West, will also have its own space for New Yorkers to post notes, starting Tuesday.

The sticky-note project, dubbed “Subway Therapy,” was designed so that individuals could voice their thoughts “in these times of division, fear and stress,” said project creator Matthew “Levee” Chavez on the project’s website. Thousands of New Yorkers responded, creating what Gov. Cuomo called “a powerful symbol that shows how New Yorkers of all ages, races and religions came together” after the election.

While the goal right now was to archive the sticky notes, it was too early to determine if and how they might be presented in an exhibit.
