Meanwhile, Just Half of Americans Got a Raise This Year

November 14, 2016

Nearly half of working Americans said their pay increased over the past 12 months – with 37% receiving a raise, and 12% finding a better paying job - according to a new study by Bankrate.com. The other half were not so lucky.

According to the study, which was based on 1,000 adults polled in early November 2016:

52% of raises were from performance-based increases;

Nearly 33% of raises were cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs);

10% of raises were promotions;

Those who didn't get a raise or promotion skewed toward less-educated workers, part-time employees and those ages 62 and up.
