In an effort to meet financial targets set by CEO Brian Moynihan, Bank of America began on Wednesday to lay off operations and technology employees. Many of the cuts affect BofA’s headquarters in Charlotte, NC. No details were provided. The bank has also been cutting costs by closing data centers and moving information to less costly systems run by technology firms.

At a conference on Wednesday, COO Tom Montag said that the global banking and markets unit has about 1,300 applications that cost about $1.3 billion to maintain and run.
