DOL Fiduciary Rule Officially Put Off Until June 9

April 6, 2017

To no one's surprise, the Labor Department announced on Tuesday that it had pushed back the start date for its so-called 'Fiduciary Rule', from Monday, 4/10, to 6/9/17. Under terms of the extension, "advisers to retirement investors will [still] be treated as fiduciaries and have an obligation to give advice that adheres to 'impartial conduct standards' [except that such obligations are set to begin] on June 9 rather than on April 10, 2017, as originally scheduled. "

Notwithstanding the change in the effective date, enforceability is not scheduled to kick in until January 2018.
