CFTC Chairman Timothy Massad Announces Resignation

January 4, 2017

Chairman Timothy Massad today submitted his resignation to President Obama, effective on January 20, 2017. He has chaired the Commission for 2-1/2 years. Mr. Massad will use his remaining time to close out his office and handle administrative matters.

 

Mr. Massad was sworn in as Chairman on 6/5/14. Prior to joining the CFTC, … Mr. Massad:

  • served as Assistant Secretary for Financial Stability at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, overseeing the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP).
  • served as Chief Counsel for TARP.
  • served as a legal advisor to the Congressional Oversight Panel for TARP.
  • was a partner with Cravath, Swaine & Moore.
